Where the Sky Begins

Writing about altitude, distance and inner transition

This book began with movement rather than tension.

Where the Sky Begins emerged from travelling through high mountain regions — places where geography alters perception, where distance becomes physical and silence expands rather than contracts. The story is less concerned with mystery than with transition: between places, states of mind and moments of decision.

It is a novel shaped by elevation.

Landscape as Threshold

Mountains in this book are not dramatic scenery.

They function as thresholds — spaces where characters are forced to slow down, to confront scale and isolation. Altitude strips away distraction. Paths become deliberate. Every movement carries weight.

Writing followed this logic closely. The narrative allows space, pauses and distance, trusting that meaning often arises between events rather than within them.

“At a certain height, the world no longer explains itself.
It simply opens.”

— Where the Sky Begins

From Observation to Inner Movement

As with my other work, visual perception played a central role.

Light, weather and topography informed the rhythm of the text. The act of looking — across valleys, into clouds, along ridgelines — became a way of approaching inner change. Photography and writing intersected naturally, both grounded in attention and restraint.

The novel moves quietly, resisting urgency.

A Different Kind of Narrative Tension

Conflict in Where the Sky Begins is subtle.

Rather than external threats, the story explores hesitation, memory and the pressure of choice. The mountains do not impose danger; they reveal what has been present all along.

This restraint is intentional. The book is not about resolution, but about orientation.

Part of an Ongoing Practice

Where the Sky Begins continues an ongoing exploration of narrative shaped by place, image and perception.

Further reflections on writing, landscape and visual storytelling will appear in the Crevia Journal.
