They moved through the undergrowth. Slow. Focused.
Hera took the lead. Nose to the ground. Silent. Determined.
Marc followed. A branch caught his jacket. He didn’t care.

It had been nearly an hour.

They had picked up Claire’s scent near the fire road. Hera was sure of it. Nika confirmed it with a bark — short, sharp, certain.
Marc’s boots were wet with morning dew. His breath came faster. Not from the climb. From something deeper.

Then he saw it.
Beyond a row of wild trees, a gate. Rusted, high. Barbed wire twisted along the top.
Behind it, a villa.

Old. Grandeur cracked by time. Tall windows, most shuttered. A tower in the back. Ivy curling like veins.
